Last Rites Held for Mrs. F. H. Montgomery

Funeral services for Mrs. F. H. Montgomery were held Friday morning in the Grace church with Rev. C. E. Custer of the Methodist church in Renwick officiating. Mrs. Les Hoffman and Mrs. Luther Matson sang two number, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "My God and I," accompanied on the organ by Janet Jamison.

Pallbearers were Elmer Jensen, Russell H. Leonard, Dr. R. W. Johnson, Harold Crawford, Everett Anderson and Wm. Petersen.

Following the rites here, services were held at Lime Springs at which place burial was made.

Attending the services from a distance were R. E. Montgomery of Monroe, Mrs. Mabell Markee of Chicago, Dr. and Mrs. John R. Jones, Kay and Joan, Mr. and Mrs. James Shoemaker and Donna, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Roberts, all of Lime Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Sargent of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Sargent of Sergeant Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Roberts of Waterville and several from Renwick, Webster City, Nevada, Roland, Ames and Monroe.

The following obituary was read at the funeral:

Ruby Mae Montgomery, daughter of James W. and Cathryn Roberts, was born August 6, 1901, at Lime Springs, Ia., and departed this life June 30, 1953, at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 24 days at the family home in Story City. Her early life and school days were spent near Lime Springs. After graduation from her local high school she attended college at Upper Iowa University at Fayette, Iowa.

In the year 1929 she was united in marriage with Forrest H. Montgomery of Monroe, Ia. To this happy union was born one daughter, Maxine Marilyn, who is a junior in Story City high school.

Besides being a loving wife and wonderful mother, Mrs. Montgomery spent many years in the class room where her profound religious concepts, her objective philosophy for living and her deep love of people no doubt played an important role in shaping the lives of many young people.

As a young girl she affiliated with the Methodist church of Lime Springs, and on coming to Story City, she became a member of the Grace Evangelical United Brethren church, to which she was faithful until her death. She was active in the WSWS of her church, the Woman's club, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Besides her husband and daughter, those who mourn her loss are he brothers and sisters, namely, Mr. Dewey Roberts of Waterville, Mrs. Mabelle Markee of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Pearl Sargent of Des Moines, Archie Roberts, Mrs. Sydna Shoemaker and Mrs. Kathrine Jones, all of Lime Springs. She will also be greatly missed by Mr. Montgomery's father, R. E. Montgomery of Monroe, who loved her as his daughter, as well as many relatives and a host of friends.

Her final resting place was a Pleasant Hill cemetery at Lime Springs close to the home she loved so dearly as a child and which later became one of her most treasured possessions.

No one can doubt that the sweetness and goodness and gentleness which was Ruby will continue to live in all the places that have been her earthly homes. She brought something fine into the world and it must remain, even though she has departed. There should be happiness and deep satisfaction in the knowledge that her soul and spirit live on.
