OBITUARY
George Walden, the son of Lars and Bertha Walden, was born on the old Walden homestead, southwest of Cambridge, on May 19, 1874. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth and attended school in his home district. On October 12, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Sydnes. They began life together on his father's farm, where they lived for several years, until they moved to Castelwood, South Dakota. Later they moved back to Iowa and took up their residence in Slater, where they lived till death claimed his wife on July 5, 1910.
Following the death of his wife the family became separated and the children were given homes with near relatives and friends. The children were six in number, four daughters and two sons. They are Viola, Frances, Gladys and Beatrice and Byron and Earl all of whom are living and were at their father's bedside when he passed away.
Following the death of his life companion, Mr. Walden had no permanent home. He was engaged in ditching for many years and went wherever his work took him. Of late he had been engaged in highway construction work and ditching continued to be his trade. It was while he was thus employed that he met with the auto accident which caused his death.
Besides the six children he is mourned by a dear mother, Mrs. Bertha Walden, now well advanced in years, who resides at Perley, Minnesota. He is also mourned by two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Harker and Mrs. Anna Egeland, both of Perley, Minnesota, and two brothers, Carl and Tom and Mrs. Egeland were present at the funeral on Sunday.
