DR. PERCY L. ELLIS DIES IN SIOUX CITY

Was Graduate Ames Hi and I. S. C.

Dr. Percy L. Ellis, 41, graduate of the Ames high school in 1909 and of Iowa State college in veterinary medicine in 1913, died in a hospital in Sioux City, at 10:30 p.m., Friday, following an extended illness, according to word received in Ames, Saturday morning. Dr. Ellis is a son of E. L. Ellis, 611 Carroll avenue, a retired mail carrier, who was with him at the time of his death. He leaves a sister in Ames, Mrs. James Alderman, who with her husband also reside at 611 Carroll avenue. Attorney Earle S. Smith has been a close friend of Dr. Ellis since their early boyhood days together in Ames.

Besides his father and sister, he also leaves a brother, Dr. W. V. Ellis of Sioux City, who was graduated from Iowa State in veterinary medicine in 1910. His mother died in Ames about eight years ago.

Taken Ill In Ohio

While taking some post graduate work in bacteriology at Ohio State university at Columbus, early this year, Dr. Ellis became ill and returned to his home in Merrill, about 18 miles north of Sioux City. A month ago he was taken to the hospital where he passed away. His death was due to complication accompanying a high blood pressure.

Dr. Ellis was born in Montour, Iowa, and came to Ames with his parents when he was eight years old. During his high school and college career he was prominent in many activities, and was a member of the Cardinal guild at Iowa State in 1911, he was president of the Ames high school alumni association.

Served Overseas

Following his graduation as a veterinarian in 1913, he went to Merrill to practice his profession, and had remained there since, with the exception of his war time service. During the World war, he was an officer in the army veterinary corps, serving overseas mor than a year.

In recent years, Dr. Ellis became an outstanding citizen at Merrill, serving as president of the board of education, mayor of the city and a member of the city council.

He was prominent in American Legion activities at Merrill, and also was a member of the Odd Fellows order, Knights of Pythias, Masonic order, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar and Shrine.

The American Legion will be in charge of the funeral at Merrill, Monday at 2 p. m. Burial will be Merrill.
