Russ was born on July 25, 1957, in Marshalltown, to Ralph and Rita (Dunn) Howe and raised on a farm north of Clemons. He started his career with Brenton Bank in Des Moines in 1981. During his years there, Systematics Inc. acquired the data processing services at Brenton Bank, and he was assimilated into the Systematic environment. In 1988, Systematics transferred him to the Boston Five Cent Saving Bank in Boston where he worked as a programmer. He supported numerous banking applications and provided client support. In 1993, he transferred to First New Hampshire Bank in Manchester, N.H., as a programming supervisor. In 1996, he transferred to Cleveland, where he became the account manager at Chase Financial supporting the advance loan system. In 2001, he transferred to Daimler Chrysler in Detroit. Over the past year, he continued his account management responsibilities at USAA in San Antonio, which took him back to his roots in the banking world.
His career took him from programmer analyst to account manager over a period of 25 years. He loved his work. He was a great mentor and coach, always giving of his time, knowledge and patience. He always has a great rapport with his clients and always went the extra mile for both his coworkers and clients.
He valued his loving family, his many friends, the importance of education and his Catholic faith. He enjoyed leisure time near the water and on his boat, entertaining family and friends, traveling home and abroad, singing in the church choirs, gardening and the love of learning.

Howe of rural Clemons; three sisters, Connie of Eldora, Carmen of Melbourne and Tamma of Des Moines; one brother, Roger of rural Clemons; one sister-in-law, Patricia (Rick) Howe of State Center; two nieces, Michelle and Paige Bolton; and two nephews, Nick and Ross Howe.
