Obituary

In memory of Ira J. Hendricks, who passed away July 19th, 1975 at the Lutheran Home at Madrid, Ia.

Ira J. Hendricks was born Sept. 1, 1899 near Douds, Ia. While yet a small boy, his family moved to nearby Eldon, ia. where Ira spent his school years and graduated from Eldon High School.

On Dec. 27, 1924 he was united in marriage to Carrie Dobbe of Huxley, Ia. Carrie had been teaching school at Eldon, Ia. During the early years of their marriage, Ira was self-employed in his Confectionary store at Eldon, Ia.

During the latter 1920's, Ira went on the road servicing accounts for a Life Insurance Co. and traveled in many of the southern states and eastern states. In 1935 he came to Huxley, Ia. and bought a grocery business that Ben Hokel had been operating. In 1945 Ira sold his grocery business to Henry Dobbe and then Ira started his Insurance Agency. On Jan. 1, 1955 Ira transferred his insurance agency to his son, John and then Ira began work as an employee for the Iowa Highway Commission at Ames, Ia. and after eight years there, Ira retired.

In addition to his other duties, Ira during the 40's and 50's also managed the Huxley Co-op Telephone Co. and also for many years was manager of the Huxley Co-op Locker plant.

Ira is survived by his wife, Carrie; his son, John; daughter-in-law, Loretta; two grandchildren, Randy and Cindy.
