Rites Monday for Clarence Walker

Relatives and friends filled Bethlehem Lutheran Church Monday, Oct. 21 at 2 p. m. to pay tribute to the memory of Clarence Walker, lifetime resident of the Slater area. He passed away at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines on Thursday evening, Oct. 17.

Rev. W. A. Adix was the officiating clergyman. He chose as his theme "Grief With Hop" based on II Thessalonians 4:13. Robert Weeks, soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." Accompanying him at the organ was Mrs. Oliver Newman who also played a group of selections before the service opened.

Serving as pallbearers were Richard Lem, William Weeks, Amund Ihle, Kenneth Ihle, William Harmon, Raymond Rimathe, Dennis Soderstrum and Wayne Rimathe.

Interment was made in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.

Obituary

Clarence Waler was born July 15, 1894 at Slater to Mr. and Mrs. Amos Walker. He lived his entire life in this community. He was baptized into the fellowship of the Triune God confirmed and married in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of which he was a member all his life.

On Aug. 16, 1916 he was united in marriage to Ella Halverson of Slater. They were permitted to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary two years ago.

He died Oct. 17 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines following a short illness at the age of 74.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, a sister, Sylvia and brothers, William and Ray.

Surviving him are his wife, Ella, their four children, Mrs. Lowell (Phyllis) Soderstrum of Slater, Mrs. Paul (Norma Jean) Lem of Ankeny, John of Slater and Mrs. Jack (Ruth) Roberts of Urbandale, 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his step-mother, now residing in Norway and numer ours other relatives and friends.
