DEATHS

LEON EUGENE THOMPSON

Leon Eugene Thompson, 67, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 1988, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines IA.

He was born June 12, 1921, in Colome SD to Thomas and Leontine Johnson Thompson. He married Betty Tesdell on Sept. 20, 1947, in Slater IA.

Mr. Thompson was employed by Iowa State University as an Extension editor in information service. He was World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps.

He had lived in the Polk and Story County areas since his marriage, was very active in the American Lutheran Church and was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge IA.

He graduated from high school in Colome SD and received his BA degree from the University of Missouri and his master's degree from Iowa State University.

Mr. Thompson's survivors include his wife, Rev. Betty Thompson, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church of Cambridge; three sons, Rev. Chris Lee-Thompson of Dekalb IL, Robert Thompson of Boone IA and Thomas Thompson of Sonora CA; two brothers, Marcus Thompson of Colome SD and James Thompson of Ashley OH; five sisters, Fern Graham of Des Moines, Eunice Thompson of Colome, Glendae Jungeman of Sioux Falls SD, Eulalie Dahl of Winner SD and Elaine Classen of Omaha NE, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Faye, and his brother, Tommy.

Memorials are to go to Bread for the World in Washington DC and the Lutheran Communications Center in Clear Lake IA.

Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 22, at 10:30 a.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater with Rev. Charles Berdahl, Rev. April Larson and Rev. William Benbow officiating.

Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.

Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 21, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell IA with a prayer service following at 7 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge.
