DEATH COMES TO MRS. RYG

She passed Away At Des Moines Last Friday Morning, After a Brief Illness.

Mr. Ed. Ryg received a sad message from Des Moines last Friday morning, telling of the death of his aged mother, Mrs. Eli Ryg. She had passed quietly away at 5:45 o'clock that morning, the victim of pleural pneumonia. Making her home with her son, she had recently gone to Des Moines for a visit with relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Gunderson, and it was at their home she passed away at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 12 days. The remains were prepared for burial and later taken to her son's home near Slater to await funeral.

The funeral took place from the Bethlehem church on Monday afternoon and was attended by a large crowd in spite of the bad roads and weather conditions. The services were in charge of Rev. Duea, who spoke feelingly of the life that had passed away in the death of Mr. Ryg. The musical numbers consisted of a Norwegian selection by Mr. Malmin; a trio, "Lead kindly Light," by Mrs. Lester Halverson and the Misses Alma and Jeanette Heggem; a duet, "Though Your Sins Be As Scarlet," by Mrs. Halverson and Miss Alma Heggem.

Deceased was born May 28, 1843, at Etne, Norway. In 1869 she was united in marriage to Owen Ryg. Coming to America in 1881, they took up their residence at Lisbon, Illinois where they lived and reared a family of nine children -- ----- ------- passed away at her son's home near Slater. In 1922 she came to Slater to make her home and continued to reside here till death claimed her. They are Ed. of this place, Eli of Morris, Illinois. She is also mourned by a brother, H. Frette, of Story City and fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Grandma Ryg was a kind and considerate woman with a lovable disposition and a smile that was catchy. She was an earnest Christian and the world is better because of her having lived.
