Services Held for Lars M. Vespestad

Services for Lars M. Vespestad were held Monday morning at 10:00 a. m. at the Riis Funeral Home.

Pastor Leo O. Bjorlie was in charge of the services choosing as his text the 125th Psalm, verses 1 and 2.

Robert Weeks sang two solos, "Behold the Host" and "Peace to Soothe." He was accompanied by the pianist, Mrs. Oliver Newman.

Pallbearers were Leo Richardson, Don Klonglan, Wallace Vespestad, James Roe, Raymond Roe and Gerald Schaudt.

Interment was in the Slater Municipal Cemetery.

Obituary

Lars Mathisa Vespestad, son of Mathias and Elizabeth Vespestad, was born Dec. 17, 1877, in Bombo, Haugesund, Norway. There he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and on April 7, 1900 was united in marriage to Karen Marie Eide. They came to the United States in 1901 and made their home in Story County. Nine children were born to this union. Those surviving are: Matt of Cambridge, Martha Roe of Williams, Gerhard of Kelley, Nels of Slater, Chris of Jewell, Elizabeth of Williams and Kathryn Gordon of Webster City. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one sister Kirsti Holme in Norway.

Mr. Vespestad was preceded in death by his parents, his wife who died March 10, 1915 and two sons, Elmer who died in 1934 and Gerhard who died in infancy. Also five sisters, two brothers and three grandchildren.

He was married in 1926 to Mary Storing at Slater, who preceded him in death Sept. 9, 1958. His stepson James Storing survives.

Mr. Vespestad entered the Story County Home at Nevada in January 1958. He passed away Sept. 2, 1960 at the age of 82 years at the Nevada County Hospital after a short illness.
