MRS. ROOD LAID TO REST SUNDAY

After a siege of illness, extending over a long period of time, Mrs. E. C. Rood passed into the great beyond last Friday morning at seven o'clock. In the hope of bettering her condition she had been taken to the tuberculosis sanitarium at Oakdale, Iowa, August 16, 1916, where she remained until her removal to Slater May 21st, this year.

Burial took place Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the M. E. church, interment being made in the Slater cemetery. The sermon was preached by Rev. Barton of Sheldahl and a large crowd was present. The floral offerings were many and beautiful as well, and came from the Slater i. O. O. F., the order of R. R. Telegraphers, The R. R. Brotherhoods and other friends. They were beautiful in the extreme and testified to the high esteem of a sister that had departed for a land where sickness and sorrow shall be no more.

Julia Emalia Holstad Rood was born near Montevideo, Minn., June 1st, 1876, and reached the age of 41 years and 14 days. She became motherless at the age of six. Her father died in March, 1914 and three brothers and three sisters had preceded her to the tomb, and one sister, Mrs. Ole Evenson of Benson, Minn., and Miss Hannah Holstad of Montevideo, Minn., survive her.

She was united in marriage to Edwin C. Rood, October 8, 1902. This union was blessed with three children--Phillip age 12, Eva age 9 and Sylvia age 7. After residing at Spencer, Iowa, for three years she removed with her family to Neola, where they lived one year. From there they moved to Slater as a permanent home.

Mrs. Rood was a woman of good christian character, affiliating with the Slater W. C. T. U. and other welfare organizations of the same character, always ready to lend a helping hand when it was necessary. The husband and children mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother, and the community the loss of a kind, thoughtful neighbor.
