Obituary

Elias Butler Kirby [sic] was born in Jessamine Co., Ky. Feby. 28m 1806; moved to Orange county, Ind. 1816; moved to Iowa in 1854, locating in Des Moines township, Dallas county. In 1836, he was married to Miss Sarah Nichols, they lived together over 50 years. His wife died six years ago. He moved to Madrid the last of Feby. 1856, where he resided until 1880, at which time his home was destroyed by fire. Since that time he made his home, with his son George in Garden township, until his death, which occurred March 23, 1890. At date of his death he was 84 years and 22 days old. He united with the M. E. church in 1857; there was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kirby [sic] 10 children, five girls and five boys; one girl and three boys survive him.
