DEATHS.

Saturday morning July 23, 1892, occurred the death of Alonzo M. Jenks, at his home in Slater, Iowa, at the age of 74 years, four months and sixteen days.

Mr. Jenks was born in Wyoming County, New York, on the 7th day, of March 1818, came to Cherry Valley, Illinois, in 1843 and moved to Slater, Story County in 1884, and remained here until his death. According to his wishes he was taken to Belvidere, Illinois for burial and was placed beside [those] of his first wife and three children who is buried there. After short services by Rev. Warner, on Sunday afternoon his remains was escorted to the depot by the Slater Lodge No. 384, I. O. O. F. and all his neighbors and friends. His surviving wife, Son, his brother C. B. Eddy, and his niece Miss Jenks accompanied him to Cherry Valley, Ill., where the Cherry Valley Lodge No. 173 A. F. and A. Masons's (of which he was was a member) took charge of him. The funeral took place Tuesday, July 26 at 1:30 p. m., Rev. Dr. Kerr, of Rockford, spoke on the occasion. Mr. Jenks was well liked and respected by his associates, and a man whose word could be relied upon. He had hardly seen a well day for the last three years, the earth seemed to have surrendered all pleasures for him, and death seemed to be a welcome visitor. He passed over the river peacefully and without a murmur.
