TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 29, 2005.

Kenneth W. Okland, 79, of Kelley, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Kenneth was born on March 27, 1926 to John and Edith (Johnson) Okland in Huxley. He married Margaret Ackerman in Des Moines on Dec. 26, 1951.

A lifetime resident of Kelley, Kenneth was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church and past president of the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church Board. He served in the Army and was a lifetime member of VFW and the American Legion, a past president of Story County Cattleman's Assocation, and a past president of the Huxley Cooperative Telephone Company. He organized a roller skating group in the 1940's, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Kenneth retired from farming in 1995. He loved spending a lot of time with his children and grandchildren.

Immediate survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Kelley; four children, Kenny (Jeannette) Okland, of Kelley, Linda (Kevin) Larson, of Story City, John (Glenda) Okland, of Kelley, and Tim Okland, of Kelley; three siblings, Stanley Okland, Lois (Gordon) Hove and Dorothy (Ken) Burger; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Marlowe and Leo.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with the Rev. Tom Hilger officiating. He was buried at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was entrusted with arrangements.
