Daniel Joseph Konrady (1955-2022)

Daniel Joseph Konrady, 66, passed away on August 10, 2022, after a short illness.

Dan was born in Ames, Iowa on November 22, 1955, to Howard and Arlene (Daniels) Konrady. He grew up in Fairfield, IA where he worked for Hy-Vee in Fairfield until his graduation from Fairfield Senior High School in 1974. He then attended Iowa State University for two years and continued to work for Hy-Vee until 1980. He enlisted in the Navy in 1982. After basic training in San Diego, CA he served in Norfolk, VA; and on the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower. He received a Deployment Ribbon with 1 bronze star, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Navy Unit Commendation. He achieved the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer-Data Processing Technician while proudly serving the country he loved until 1987. Upon return to the Midwest, Dan worked for the US DOT from 1990 in Lincoln, NE until his disability retirement in 2000.

Upon his retirement, Dan’s faith directed him to care for his mother as she battled Alzheimer’s and to serve others through the Ames Historical Museum and St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Ames. He also took time to enjoy his love of music, genealogy research, and compilation, and spending time with brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his Godparents, Uncle Lyle & Aunt Jeanette Konrady. He was always looking for someone to play him in Cribbage.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Nick Konrady. He is survived and will be deeply missed, by two brothers, Paul (Paula) Konrady, Seattle, WA; Phil (Laura) Konrady, Eldridge, IA; and sister-in-law, Sandy (Nick) Konrady; three sisters, Rose (Jerry) Acker, Coon Rapids, MN; Mary (Daren) Gangelhoff, Eagan, MN; Carol (Mark) Wilson, Cedar Rapids, IA; 7 nephews, 7 nieces, 5 grand-nephews, 6 grand-nieces, and 1 great grand-nephew.

Memorials in Dan’s name may be made to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Ames, or to Ames Historical Museum.
