O'Dale "Odie" Burton Brue (1932-2022)

O’Dale Burton Brue (Odie) was born on July 3, 1932, in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from Ames High School in 1950. Odie joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and served as an Aircraft Mechanic on the Lockheed U-2A “Spy Plane” program. His duties included several domestic and foreign assignments. He retired from the USAF after twenty years, earning the rank of Master Sargent.
After leaving the military, he was employed by Sundstrand/Sauer- Danfoss) in Ames. Upon retirement from the private sector, he relocated to Story City, Iowa, where he remained until his passing.

Odie had a passion for everything aviation. He spent countless hours building and flying (mostly building) remote-controlled aircraft. He had amassed more RC aircraft kits, engines, and related components at one point than most hobby stores.

He was a sharp-witted man of few words who, on occasion, was known to possess an infectious smile.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Bertha, and his only sibling Delmar (Shirley). Odie remained single throughout his life. He is survived by his two nephews, Eric (Shawna) and Edward.

Memorial Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on August 8, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive in Adel, Iowa.
