Obituary

Minnie Elizabeth Wald, daughter of John and Matilda Johnson, was born at Fairfield, Ia. on Feb. 28, 1875 and died at the Story County Hospital in Nevada, Ia. at the age of 86 years and 7 months.

Her early life was spent in the Slater and Sheldahl communities, later moving to Des Moines.

She was united in marriage to Severin O. Wald in 1899 and lived in Slater until shortly after the death of her husband on Sept. 16, 1941. She then made her home with a daughter, Mrs. A. J. Reinertson, for approximately 15 years. Due to the illness of her daughter and being quite unable to care for herself she was moved to the Gilmore Nursing Home in Nevada last October. Her health kept gradually getting worse and pneumonia claimed her life on Sept. 7, 1961.

To the union were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy-- Doris Minnie and Geraldine Louise.

She leaves to mourn her death three daughters, Mrs. A. J. (Bonnie) Reinertson of Roland, Mrs. Arnold (Melba) Olson of Des Moines and Mrs. F. M. (Laura) Horn of Rockford, Ill.; three sons, Curtis of Des Moines, Lowell of Nevada and Supt. Roscoe Wald of Stuart; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wald was a long-time member of the Slater Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid (now the Women's Society of Christian Service), which she loved and often spoke of to her daughter.

She will be remembered as a sincere Christian and a devoted and loving mother. She had gone to great lengths to give of herself unselfishly to her children and those who needed her as long as she was able. Blessed be her memory.
