Services Here for Former Resident

Funeral services for Mrs. Augusta Wald, former Slater resident, were conducted at Minneapolis on Tuesday at 1:30 in St. Luke's Lutheran church and at Slater on Wednesday at 2 o'clock in the Riis Funeral home.

At the services here in Slater, Rev. P. E. Onstad officiated, preaching on the theme, "Asleep in Jesus," from I Thess. 4:13-17. Mrs. Stanley Heggen of Ames sang "Sunrise" and Pastor Onstad sang "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name."

Pallbearers were E. C. Rood, M. S. Heggen, Albert Lehman, John Sydnes, Morrill Nervig and Andrew Auestad.

Interment was in the Slater cemetery.

Mrs. Augusta Wald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Simerson, was born on Apr. 5, 1872 near Belmond, Ia. On July 7, 1891, she was united in marriage with Rev. Ole Wald of Slater. To this union were born four daughters and four sons. Pastor Wald served congregations in Chicago, Ill., and Fertile, Ia. On Jan. 18, 1908 he died of influenza.

After her husband's death, Mrs. Wald and children moved to Belmond, Ia., and two years later to Slater. In 1923 the family moved to Minneapolis, where Mrs. Wald has received until her death.

She had been failing in health for the past year. On Feb. 27 she fell on ice and fractured her hip. She lost strength rapidly after this fall and died on May 3, having reached the age of 81 year and 27 days.

Survivors include her eight children: Bertilla, Alvah, Ina and Oletta of Minneapolis; Ferdinand of Salt Lake City, Utah; Joseph of St. Paul, Minn.; Burton of Elgin, Ill.; and Reuben of Portland, Ore. There are also 12 grandchildren and one brother, Ludvig Simerson, of Belmond, Ia. Many relatives and friends mourn her passing.

Mrs. Wald was a quiet, reserved woman whose deep Christian faith permeated her whole life. For her to "live was Christ and to die is gain."
