Obituary of H. J. Michelson

Halvar J. Michelson was born in Norway, Europe, Dec. 20th, 1861, and died on Tuesday, February 28th, 1933 at his home south of Huxley at an age of 71 years, 2 months and 8 days.

While yet a child he accompanied his parents to America. They took up their residence on what is now the Cyrus Sydnes place east of Slater. His folks were thus among the pioneers of Palestine township. They will be remembered as Jacob and Sarah Michelson.

Halvar grew to manhood in the community which he continued to make his home till death claimed him last week. On December 3, 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Thompson. To this union three children were born, all of whom survive him. They are Jacob Michelson of near Huxley; Mrs. Nellie Larson of near Cambridge and Mrs. Sadie Lee of west of Slater. He is also survived by his wife and 8 grandchildren. Three brothers also mourn his passing on. They are Mike of Stanley, North Dakota, Jacob of Colorado and Henry of Slater.

The deceased was a member of the Palestine church with which he became affiliated as a young man through confirmation. He had previously been baptized in the land of his birth. All through life he was interested in the church and a regular attendant at all services. He was a kind and loving father and was held in the highest esteem by neighbors and friends. He had been in failing health for the past two years, though able to be about till stricken with pneumonia.
