Rites in Slater for Nettie Johnson, 90

Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Johnson of Ames were held at the Riis Funeral Home here Saturday at 2 p. m.

Rev. John Davies of Collegiate Presbyterian Church of Ames was in charge of the services. Mrs. Lester Becker was the soloist, singing "My Task." Mrs. Oliver Newman was organist.

Pallbearers were Howard Nelson, Clarence Nelson, Roald Johnson, Harold Croft, Forrest Kenny and Lester Pettit. Interment was in Slater Municipal Cemetery, south of town.

Obituary

Nettie Mae Anderson was born on July 23, 1876 in Polk County and grew up in the Sheldahl community. She was married to Al Johnson of Slater and as newlyweds they established their home in Slater and lived here many years before going to Ames to reside. While living in Slater they were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. In Ames they joined the Collegiate Presbyterian Church where she was an active member as long as her health permitted.

Mrs. Johnson was also active in community projects. In the Rebekah Lodge, she received her 70-year membership pin. A member of the Slater J. F. Club, she was the last surviving charter member.

In failing health in recent months, Mrs. Johnson, known to her friends as Aunt Nettie, passed away at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames on Thursday morning, Dec. 1. She was 90 years old in July.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, LaVerne and her sister, Mrs. John (Minnie) Nelson.

Surviving are her brother, Wesley Anderson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Croft of Story City; nephews Howard Nelson of New Richmond, Wis., Clarence Nelson of Sherburne, Minn., Loren Nelson of Graettinger, Ia., Chester Nelson of North Carolina, Kentley Nelson of Menlo Park, Calif., Vernard Nelson of Rapid City, S. D., Hugh Croft of Slater; nieces, Mrs. William Higholt of Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Roald Johnson of Wayzeta, Minn., Mrs. Toger Nelson of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Mrs. Bill Moyer of Van Nuys, Calif.; and Marvin Mason of Stockton, Calif., for whom she cared a number of years.

The J. F. Club served coffee for the relatives and friends at the Harold Croft home after the funeral services.

Relatives who came to Slater to attend the last rites for Mrs. Johnson were: Mr. and Mrs. Howard Nelson, New Richmond, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nelson, Sherburne, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Roald Johnson, Wayzeta, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Toger Nelson, Redwood Falls, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Croft, Estherville, Marvin Mason of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Harold Moen and Helen of Fort Dodge. Those from out-of-state were house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Croft.
