Mrs. Katie Burkey Funeral Saturday

Last rites for Mrs. Katie Burkey were held Saturday. There was a short service at the home in Cambridge at 1 p. m., followed by services at the Methodist church in Sheldahl at 2:15 p. m.

Rev. Fred Martin of Yale, Ia., former Sheldahl pastor, was in charge. He was assisted by Rev. Herbert Phillips. Lester Moor sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Sunrise Tomorrow."

Mrs. Irvin Alleman and Mrs. August Carlson had charge of the flower arrangement.

Pallbearers were Albert Buche John Buche,, Homer Lee, Orville Lee, W. O. Thornwall and L. P. Earp.

Interment was in the Sheldahl cemetery.

Obituary.

Kathryn Julia Burkey, daughter of Phillip and Margaret Graeber, was born in Polk county, Ia., on Oct. 25, 1872. She passed away at her home in Cambridge on Aug. 13, 1952, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 17 days.

She was baptized in infancy in the Evangelical Saint Peters church at Crocker, Ia.

She was united in marriage to George Burkey on Feb. 6, 1895, and moved on a farm one mile north of Sheldahl where she lived for 54 years. She moved to Cambridge in August 1949.

To this union were born nine daughter, and she was a mother to one son and daughter by her husband's previous marriage: Mrs. Cassie Frick of Sheldahl, Clint Burkey of Sheldahl, Mrs. Margaret Buche of Ankeny, Mrs. Ida Horner of Nevada, Mrs. Esther Helberg of Algona, Mrs. Dora Woods of Cambridge, Mrs. Blanche Woods of Ames, Mrs. Edna Reistter of Bedford, Ind., Mrs. Minnie Bryant of Sheldahl, Mrs. Grace Phillips of Des Moines and Mrs. Wilma Thompson of Napier.

Besides her children she leaves 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three brothers, William Graeber of Sheldahl, George Graeber of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Barney Graeber of Denver, Colo. In addition to the immediate family, she leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

Her husband, parents, two sisters and six brothers preceded her in death.

On Sept. 21, 1921, Mrs. Burkey and her husband were united with the Salem Evangelical and Reformed church at Alleman. Later she transferred her membership to the Sheldahl Methodist church, where she continued to be a faithful member after moving from the community. She was also active in the Ladies Aid and the Sheldahl Cemetery Auxiliary.
