Funeral Services for Mrs. Julia Freeland

Obituary.

Mrs. Freeland was born July 1, 1879 in Skaanevik, Prestegjeld, Norway, to Gunder and Gunhilde Rullestad. She was brought to the Lord in holy baptism as Gurina Rullestad, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith by Pastor Millang. She was one of nine children.

At the age of 21 she left Norway and arrived in the United States on Mar. 12, 1900, making her home temporarily with a brother, Gunder, who lived near Huxley. She was employed for a while in Des Moines and Ames. On Mar. 22, 1905, she was united in marriage to Johan Freeland of near Kelley by Pastor Axel Shefveland in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gunder Rullestad. They made their home on their farm, three miles southeast of Kelley, all their married life. They were blessed with seven daughters and two sons. Mr. Freeland passed away June 14, 1931; Glen, the oldest son, passed away Oct. 1, 1934; Joann passed away July 25, 1939. Mrs. Freeland maintained the farm home for her family until 1943 when she moved to Des Moines, but recently made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Weeks.

The Lord called her home on Sunday morning, Nov. 5, at 5:45, at the age of 71 years, 4 months nd 4 days.

The following named children are left to cherish the memory of a dear mother: Pearl (Mrs. John Weeks) of Kelley; Mabel (Mrs. Obert Weeks) of Des Moines; Evelyn (Mrs. J. A. Ginn) of Kansas City, Mo.; Mildred (Mrs. Herbert Reinertson) of Slater; Thelma (Mrs. G. P. Merritt) of Wichita, Kan.; Stanley of Kelley; Lorraine and nine grandchildren. Her parents, one sister, Gunhilde, and five brothers, Jermund Gunder, Esten, Jalmer and Ingebrit, preceded her in death. Her brothers Lars Rullestad of Huxley and Sivert Rullestad of Jewell survive her.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran church and Ladies Aid of Kelley for many years.

Blessed be her memory.

Burial was in the family lot in the Slater cemetery with Rev. Onstad giving the committal ceremony.
