SAYERS, MARTHA (MRS. JOHN) ( - 1894)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 8, 1894, page 5, column 3.
“OBITURARY. DIED – At her home in Maxwell, Oct. 24th, 1894, Mrs. Martha Sayers, wife of John Sayers, age 68 years and 23 days. Mr. and Mrs. Sayers have lived in Maxwell for the past twelve years, coming here when the town was new, where they have many friends and acquaintances who were grieved to hear of the death of Mrs. S. although she had been ill for several months with that dread disease consumption. Everything that medical aid and kind friends could was done for the sufferer, but through all her suffering, she was patient and willing to yield to her Master’s biding. Mrs. Sayers was an earnest Christian woman. She joined the Latterday Saints Church in Old England, in May 1851, came to America, baptized in the reorganized church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints May 17, 1866, confirmed same time by R. H. Smith and Rob’t Young. The remains were taken to Des Moines for interment Saturday Oct. 27, accompanied by the sorrowing husband and children. Funeral services were held in C. P. church Sunday Nov. 4th, conducted by the minister from Rhodes, assisted by Rev. R. A. Ferguson of this place, a large concourse of friends and acquaintances being present to pay their last respects to a true friend and sympathize with the bereaved husband and children. Mrs. Sayers was formerly married to Mr. Smith, by whom she had five children, all of whom survive her. She was married to Mr. Sayers June 22, 1868.”

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 8, 1894, page 5, column 1. “John Sayers left Tuesday for a visit of three or four weeks with relatives at Monroe, Iowa.”
