From Ames Intelligencer, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, October 6, 1904.

The death angel came to the home of S. Cord, Sept. 28, 1904 to claim William A. Phillips, who was born in the state of Michigan, Oct. 18, 1882 and died at the age of 21 years, 11 months and 15 days.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. Ferral at the Cord home, Sept. 29, 1904 at 2 o'clock p.m. LeRoy St John, singing evangelist from Terra Haute, Ind., sang two solemn and impressive solos. A large crowd was in attendance to bestow their last honors upon the dead. Mr. Phillips leaves a sad father and mother, two brothers and two sisters as his immediate survivors.

He had a Christian mother who for a number of years was a member of the Christian club. When summoned at last, he departed this life resignedly and peacefully. He was laid to rest in the original Ames cemetery. "Ever near us through unseen, the dear immortal spirit tread; for all the boundless universe is life-there are no dead."
