From Ames Intelligencer, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, July 14th, 1904

Mrs. Albert C Aplin

Elizabeth Ann Miller was born March 6, 1821, and died June 28, 1904, at the ripe old age of 83 years, 3 months, and 22 days, at her home in this city. She was married December 3rd, 1839, to Albert C. Aplin and moved to Iowa in the fall of 1866, having been a resident of Cambridge since '83. She was the mother of a large family, there being in all 13 children, seven girls and six boys. Out of this number all are living but two, Emily having died at the age of seven years and Dr. Arthur, of Cambridge, who died four years ago last winter. The names of the children are Mrs. Mary Smith, Cambridge; Mrs. Lida Smith, Wetmore, Kan.; Benjamin, Chillicothe, Mo.; Dr. Charles, Monroe; Dr. William, Hamilton, Mo.; Mrs. Alice McCoy, Hamilton; Mrs. Emma Mathews, Shipley; Dr. Clarence, Ames; Miss Clara, Cambridge; Mrs. Anna Meek, Madrid; and Morris, Cambridge. Seven of the above children have taught in our public schools and four sons obtained medical educations, three of whom are now practicing.

Grandma Aplin has certainly lived a valuable life. She has reared one of the largest and brightest of families to a successful career. This said means much. The responsibility has been great, indeed, and although she is now dead her memory will forever live in the minds and hearts of her loved ones. Not only was she beloved in her own home but by scores of friends and acquaintances. Thus ends the life of a mother and one who devoted her entire life to the up building and welfare of her home. --Cambridge Leader
