OBITUARY OF MRS. JOHNSON

Rachel Apland Johnson was born at Chelsvig, Norway, November 1, 1857. Her parents were Nels and Malinda Apland. With the family she emigrated to America in 1865, locating in Polk county, on a farm three miles east from Sheldahl. She resided there up to the time of her marriage to Ole Johnson, also of Polk county, on the 6th day of November, 1875. They lived on a farm three miles southeast of Sheldahl until the year of 1912, when they moved to their late home in Slater. No children were born to this union but they are survived by an adopted daughter, Mrs. Lillian Chader of Des Moines. Mr. Johnson preceded his wife in death, he having departed this life on January 25, 1917.

Deceased was confirmed at the age of sixteen at the Fieldberg church, south of Huxley, her pastor at that time being Rev. Wiese, and she has ever since been a faithful, earnest member of the Lutheran church.

Mrs. Johnson had five brothers and four sister. The three surviving brothers are Albert Apland of Caristota, South Dakota, Henry Apland of Sioux Falls, same state, and Ole Apland, who has been making his home with her. The two surviving sisters are Mrs. P. D. Combs of Eldon, Missouri, and Mrs. Peter Skola of Viborg, South Dakota. Besides these brothers and sisters there are eighteen nieces and nephews to mourn her loss.
