THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 15, 2005.

Frederick D. Niemann, 84, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. died Monday, Sept. 12, in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, Neb., with the Rev. William Koeber presiding. Burial will be 9:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Frederick D. Niemann was born May 31, 1921, in Winside, Neb., the eldest child of Edward and Alma (Meyer) Niemann. He grew up on a Wayne County farm. He received his early education in a rural school and graduated from Winside High School in 1939. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942. He served his country as an Air Force cadet, graduating as a lieutenant B-17 bomber pilot. He married Wanda Linn March 23, 1944, in Wayne.

He originally engaged in livestock and grain farming. In 1956, he accepted a position with Walnut Grove Products as a feed salesman. In 1962, he became a Walnut Grove regional sales manager and moved his family to Ames. He later started a Whirlpool distribution business conducted under the name of "Iowa Distributors," which was sold in 1997.

He and his wife retired to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., in 1997. He was a lifelong member of various Lutheran churches.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; one daughter, Gay Renee Bovee, of Winter Park, Fla.; two granddaughters, Brielle Bovee and Courtney Bovee of Winter Park, Fla.; two brothers, Herbert Niemann of Norfolk, Neb., and Edward Niemann Jr. of Papillion, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alma Niemann, and his sister-in-law, Joyce Niemann.

The family thanks you for your sympathy and kindness and invites you to lunch at the church fellowship hall following the service.

Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Homes in Laurel, Neb., is in charge of arrangements.
