MRS. SUTHERLAND CALLED BY DEATH

Passed Away Early Sunday Morning after a Four Weeks Illness. Buried Monday.

Mrs. Hattie Anderson Sutherland, familiarly known as Grandma Sutherland, died early Sunday morning after an illness that extended over a period of four weeks, she having taken sick Easter Sunday. She had been very low for two weeks and the last summons had been anticipated. By her sick bed were all her children with the exception of her son Emil, who resides in California and could not be present on account of illness. Funeral took place Tuesday. After brief services at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Heine Johnson, the remains were conveyed to a Milwaukee train and taken to Madrid where the services proper took place. Rev. Nilson officiated at the home. At Madrid the services were held at the Swedish Lutheran church and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. Moreland. She was one of the charter members of above church and had been a faithful worshipper there during her long residence at that place. Burial was made in the cemetery at that place.

Deceased reached an age of nearly seventy-six years, being born May 2, 1837 her birthplace being Ostergotland, Malik ---- Socken, Sweden. She came to America and located at Swede Point, September 20, 1853. On the 22nd day of January, 1866, she was united in marriage to Erick Sutherland. The union was blessed with eight children. Two of them died in infancy. The other six are living and are today mourning the death of a dear mother. They are: Mrs. Heine Johnson of this place; Mrs. Margaret Samuelson of Hullt, Oregon; Andrew Sutherland of Madrid, Iowa; Seigel Sutherland of Lake Benton, Minnesota; Mrs. Charlie Juenke of Hendricks, Minnesota and Emil Sutherland of Los Angeles, California. They were all present at the funeral with the exception of Emil.

Mrs. Sutherland had a large circle of friends who were pained to learn of her death Sunday morning. Through her amiable disposition and christian character she had endeared herself to all of her acquaintances who found in her a dear friend. She was a faithful attendant at all church services as long as her health permitted her. She was a very patient sufferer and during her entire sickness was never known to complain but was cheerful and at all times had words of love and cheer to the children who had gathered around her sick bed. The obsequies on Tuesday were largely attended.
