JOHN CHADER IS LAID TO REST
The funeral over the remains of John Chader who passed away so suddenly last week, took place last Sunday afternoon from the home at 1:30 o'clock and the M. E. church at Sheldahl at 2:30 o'clock. There were short services at the home, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Peterson, of Sheldahl. Rev. Wee assisted and addressed the assembled crowd in the Norwegian language. The funeral procession then wended its way to Sheldahl where the services proper took place. His pastor, Rev. Peterson, spoke in both languages. He was assisted by Rev. Chader, son of the deceased, who addressed the large crowd in the English language. Burial was made in the Sheldahl cemetery. Deceased was one of Slater's aged citizens. He was a kind and considerate neighbor, a devoted christian and a loving husband and father. He had been active in his time but of late had been confined to the home much of the time on account of his age. With his faithful helpmate he had lived a very sincere consistent life and we doubt if there ever was a more contented, really happy couple in Slater than Mr. and Mrs. Chader. His life companion survives him, mourning the death of a very dear husband.
The following obituary has been handed us by the family:
John Anderson Chader was born in Nos Parish, Falun Lon, Sweden, August 26, 1825. He was married to Christina Peterson in 1857. To this union were born 9 children, 5 sons and 4 daughters, of whom 1 son and 2 daughters died in infancy. He came to America in 1868, locating at Denison, Iowa. Later he moved to Swede Point ---y Madrid, then to Sheldahl and later to Slater where he has lived for 25 years.
Father Chader was a charter member of the Swedish methodist church at Sheldahl, having joined that denomination in 1874. He served the church in various capacities as teacher, trustee and local preacher. He was a man of one book and that book was the Bible. His faith in Jesus Christ was unwavering and simple.
Last Wednesday afternoon, the 23rd, he laid down to take a nap and fell asleep--yes asleep in Jesus and passed away quietly and suddenly into the eternal world, having reached the ripe age of 87 years, 7 moths and 27 days. He took up the burdens of life bravely, carried them cheerfully and laid them down triumphantly. He leaves to mourn his death an aged companion, 6 children and 19 grand-children.
