Funeral of a Pioneer.

COLO, April 5,--The funeral services over the remains of the late Nelson Perry, who died at his home in this city Tuesday, were conducted from the home yesterday morning by Rev. Boreman of the Methodist church. The services were under the auspices of the Masonic order, C. E. Hunt of Ames having charge. A large crowd of people from the surrounding community, besides Nevada, State Center, Zearing, Collins and other surrounding towns were present.

The death of Mr. Perry was a most sad and sudden one. He was on the street the latter part of the week in apparent good health and was taken with a sudden chill. He went directly to his home and the illness soon developed into a serious case of pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Yates county, N. Y., January 3, 1830. Later he came west and settled in DeKalb county, Ill., where he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Ann Ward, at Hinckley, on January 1, 1857, or about a year after settling in that county. In 1869, they with their children came to Story county and settled on a farm just in the edge of Colo, where they continued to reside until 1893, when they concluded to retire and moved into Colo.

In 1901 Mr. Perry had a severe attack of pneumonia and he has never been strong since. He is survived by the wife and four children. The surviving children are Frank, Fred, Adah McBarnes and Nelson, Jr. One daughter, Mary, died in 1865, and one son, Frank in 1902, he also leaves two sisters and one brother. All of the children and one of the sisters were present at the death bed.

The deceased joined the Masonic order at Sycamore, Ill., in 1861, was a charter member of lodge at Colo and was also a member of the chapter at Nevada. He was one of our best known and highly respected citizens and his death will be sincerely mourned by a wide circle of neighbors and friends.

Upon the first of last January Mr. and Mrs. Perry, with their children, grand-children, great-grand-children and numerous friends, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. At that gathering there were present seven people who were present at the wedding and of that number Mr. Perry is the second to answer the last Roll Call.
