THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, September 2, 2005.
Robert E. Ersland, 80, of Huxley died Friday, Sept. 2, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley, with the Rev. Tom Hilger officiating. The body will be cremated.
Robert E. Ersland was born June 8, 1925, in Huxley, the son of Jacob and Millie (Berhow) Ersland. He married Ila Dolph in 1945. He graduated from Slater High School. He farmed near Slater until 1957. He served as the assistant chief engineer for the ISU Power Plant for 25 years. He retired in 1985. He lived in California before moving back to Maxwell where he lived for 15 years and then moved to Mission, Texas, for 15 years. In January 2005, Robert and his wife moved to Huxley. Ersland was a big Dale Earnhart and NASCAR fan.
He is survived by his wife, Ila of Huxley; a son, Jon Ersland of Huxley; two daughters, Barbara Throckmorton of Huxley; and Beverly Wilkenson of Spring Grove, Ill; and a sister, Veda Sutter of Lenexa, Kan.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dean Ersland and Robert E. Ersland Jr.; two grandchildren; a brother, Robert Ersland; and two sisters, JaVerne Kalsem and Esther Engelhardt.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home of Slater is in charge of arrangements.
