THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, September 2, 2005.

Berneice Louise Michel, 85, of rural Boone, passed away on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
Berneice was born on April 28, 1920, in rural Boone County to Herman and Hilda (Claussen) Grabau. She graduated from Gilbert High School in 1938.
Berneice lived all her life in the Boone and Story County area. As a young girl she worked as a caregiver for families in the area. She married Martin Arnold Michel on Feb. 9, 1941, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in northeast Boone County. Berneice enjoyed being a seamstress for family and friends and was a farmwife and homemaker.
Berneice was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Ladies Aide, Church Circle and Church Choir. She enjoyed singing in the choir and in small vocal groups and especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her three brothers, George, Otto and Willard; her sister, Evelyn, and her grandson Tyler.
Berneice is survived by her son, Gregory Alan Michel and his wife, Marianne, of Des Moines; her daughter, Kay Karleen Anderson and her husband, Dale, of rural Boone; five grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Lauer and her husband Kurt of Wilmette, Ill.; Erick John Michel and his wife, Chris, of Wilmette; Benjamin Aaron Michel and his wife, Bonnie, of Evanston, Ill.; Laura Ann Anderson of rural Boone; Axel Anderson of rural Boone; five great grandchildren, Elsa Anne Lauer, Greta Hope Lauer, Sadie Elizabeth Michel, Jack Martin Michel and Duncan Boyd Michel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in northeast Boone County, with the Rev. Bruce Lakamp officiating.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Fifth and Story streets in Boone from 1 to 9 p.m., with the family present to greet friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday morning at the church from 9 a.m. to the time of service at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
