“EDNA MARIE BACKOUS - March 25, 1911 – Sept. 12, 2003. Edna Marie Backous, 92, of Madrid, died Friday, Sept. 12, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with Deacon John McCully officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Edna was born March 25, 1911, in rural Story County, the daughter of Cyrenius M. and Violet (Huffman) Shearer. She married Harold A. Backous May 29, 1928, in Ames. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Women of the Moose, Songbirds and Heartland Ames Senior Citizen Center. She is survived by four daughters, Lois Fjelland of Huxley, Marie Farni of Peoria, Ariz., Shirley Evans of Ames and Dianna Cable of Dover, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1942; one infant child; two sisters; one brother; and one grandson. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be a t 5:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in Edna’s name for a nursing scholarship. Adams funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.”
