THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 1, 2005.
Betty Lucille Cochran, 78 of rural Nevada, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, at her home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with the Rev. Myron D. Herzberg officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.
Betty was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Roland to Otis G. and Selma G. (Opstvedt) Johnson. She was a 1945 graduate of Roland High School. She married Donald J. Cochran on Oct. 4, 1956, in Oskaloosa. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking, watching game shows and having her family and grandchildren stop by.
She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Cochran; two sons, Steven J. Cochran and Scott Cochran; one daughter, Sandra J. Fitzgerald, all of Nevada; one brother, Jerrold Johnson of Roland; two sisters, June (Jennings) Sondal of Story City and Joyce (Loren) Jondall of Milton, Wis.; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; one brother, Grant Johnson in 1975; and one sister-in-law Peggy Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
A memorial fund has been established.
