MRS ARVIL BATMAN SUICIDED.

Cuts Throat This Morning With Razor.

Mrs. Arval A. Batman died by her own hand shortly after seven o'clock this morning at the family home in this city. Her death was not instantaneous; but when her husband discovered her condition she was in bed, the bed clothes saturated with blood and a razor by her side. Doctors were immediately called and upon their arrival she was still alive and had ceased to bleed. Slight hope was entertained that she might be saved and the attempt was begun to close her wound; but with the first symptom of her revival from her faint the flow of blood began again, and death followed almost immediately.

The death of Mrs. Batman in this manner is intensely shocking to the community and the most profound sympathy is felt for the husband and family. She was the mother of seven children and her home duties had been large; but they had been well met, and with the older children approaching maturity and with material improvements in progress on the home, there was before her a seeming prospect of greater ease and comfort than she had ever been privileged to enjoy. Apparently it was the time for her to begin to enjoy the fruits of her husband's and her own accomplishments; but she had her worries, and for the moment they evidently seemed much greater to her than they did to anyone else. From the disorder about the bureau, it appeared that she had stood before the mirror to use the razor and had then gotten back to her bed to die.

Mrs. Batman was Jennie Duff, and came here with her mother when she was a girl. She was married about 1894 to Arvil Batman, and they have lived here all their married life. She would have been 43 years old next month, and she leaves besides her husband her seven children, Dean, Maud, Helen, Alice, Donald and the twins Frank and Fred. Other near relatives are her sister Mrs. Cassie Gregg of Des Moines and her brother, Lockhart Duff of this city. She was a woman highly regarded, and none but kind things will be said of her.
