Mrs. David Cloonen Laid to Rest After Long and Useful Life

Zearing, April 16--Funeral rites were held Wednesday morning at St. Gabriels Mission in Zearing, Iowa, for Mrs. David Cloonen, 81, who passed away Sunday night, April 17, death being due to complications of old age. Funeral mass was read by Rev. Fr. Connell and Rev. Fr. Frein of Webster City, her former pastor who paid tribute to her life. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Frank Moon and Dr. Catherine Robinson. The pallbearers were C. W. Stevens, M. O. Holland, W. H. Gogerty, W. C. Young, H. D. Moon and George Meiman.

The funeral cortege motored to her old home at Galesburg, Illinois, where relatives and friends who were not able to attend the services in Zearing, gathered at the Foley Funeral Home to pay their last tribute. Burial was at Galesburg, Illinois.

Relatives present at the service here in Zearing were Pat Cloonen, Edward Cloonen and daughters Mary and Theresa of Clifton, Illinois; Mrs. Tom Lally and son Edward of Chicago, Illinois; L. W. Welsh, wife and daughter, Mrs. Andrew Maserek and Audrey Ann of Marshall, Minnesota.

Mrs. David Cloonen was born Alice Welsh, daughtr of Michael and Catherine Welsh, December 23, 1854, at Maquon, Illinois, being the second of eight children. She was united in marriage to David Cloonen, October 10, 1877 at Brimfield, Illinois, and they made their home on a farm near Williamsfield, Illinois where five children were born. In March 1909 they moved to Iowa making their home on a farm northwest of Zearing which has since been their home with the exception of a year in Iowa Falls and two years at Williamsfield, Ill.

She is survived by her husband and five children Miss Catherine Cloonen of Oskaloosa. Mrs. Edward Gallagher (Agatha) of Woodstock, Ill.; A. D. Cloonen of Fairmont, Minn.; Mrs. Adolph Greiner (Marie) of Zearing, Mrs. A. N. Richtsmeier (Anastasia) of Iowa Falls, nine grandchildren and one sister Mrs. Mary Judge of Pontiac, Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. Cloonen had celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in October last year.
