Funeral Services for Lars C. Olson

Special to the Journal
McCallsburg, April 23--The funeral services for Lars C. Olson, 63, who died April 15, were held Tuesday afternoon at the home and at Bethany Lutheran church with Rev. M. O. Sumstad of Roland officiating, assisted by Rev. H. M. Bakke. Special music consisted of two songs "Save by Grace" and "Softly and Tenderly" by a duet composed of Mrs. F. E. Nail and Mrs. Berger Imsland.

The pallbearers were Bert Baumgardner, Amos Hanson, Fred Jorstad, Andrew Olson, Charlie Christian and Jacob Brekke. Interment was made in the McCallsburg cemetery.

Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Selmer Olson, Des Moines; Mrs. Guy Kelley, Evansville, Indiana; Mr. O. C. Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Waldo, Glenville, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Olson and Miss Clarine Olson, Rake; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Olson, Miss Helen Olson and Joseph Olson, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Helland, Violet and Amos Helland and Henry Michaelson, Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. Will Robinson, William Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Ewalt, Albion; Mrs. Oran Meyer, Marshalltown; Mrs. Clifton Harrendorf & Lillian Thompson of State Center.

Lars C. Olson was born February 13, 1875 at Seneca, Ill., son of Christ and Carrie Olson. He died at McCallsburg April 15, 1938 at the age of 63 years, two months and two days.

As a small boy he came with his parents to Story county and settled on a farm four miles south west of McCallsburg. There he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Esther Sampson on Sept. 22, 1900. She passed away Sept. 7, 1907.

He lived in this vicinity most of his life, engaged in farming until his health made it necessary for him to retire. He spent a few years in Colorado, but received little benefit, having made the stay for his health. After returning to McCallsburg, he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Sanford Thompson.

He leaves besides the daughter at whose home he was cared for, a son, Selmer Olson of Des Moines and a daughter, Mrs. Guy Kelley of Evansville, Ind., four grandchildren and the following sister and brothers: Mrs. O. M. Pederson, Balaton, Minn.; Martin Olson, Rake, Iowa; Carl Olson, Holt, Minn.; Henry Olson of Thompson; Ole Olson of Glenville, Minn., and Thomas Olson of Hermosa, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by the wife, an infant son, one granddaughter, Loraine Kelley; a step brother, O. E. C. Olson and a sister who died in infancy.
