THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, August 24, 2005.

Ronald Dale Grable, 67, of Rio Rancho, N.M., died at home Aug. 14 of congestive heart failure and diabetes.

Ronald Dale Grable was born Nov. 2, 1937, in Madison, S.D., to Melvin and Bessie (Simons) Grable. The family moved to Highmore, S.D., in 1945. He was a 1955 graduate of Highmore High School and attended South Dakota State College, General Beadle College and Spearfish State College. He married Suzanne Malmquist Dec. 28, 1957, in Highmore.

He taught at Eden Rural School in Hyde County, then moved to Rapid City, S.D. He spent 20 years in wholesale plumbing and heating in Rapid City and Ames. He and his wife went into the motel business in Colorado and New Mexico in 1979. They returned to Highmore in 1996, and then moved back to New Mexico in 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; one daughter, Julie (Craig) Charlson of Ames; one son, Mike Grable of Atlanta; one granddaughter, Wendy (Travis) Pierce of Ames; one sister, Verna Compton of Arvada, Colo.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Donald.

The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at United Methodist Church in Dell Rapids, S.D. Burial will be in Dell Rapids Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
