THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, August 24, 2005.
Irvia Grace Ferguson, 85, of Ames died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 23, of kidney failure, a complication of diabetes, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Ames. Viewing will be at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Irvia Grace Ferguson was born July 14, 1920. She accepted Jesus as lord and savior at age 11 and focused on serving others. Those who knew her were drawn to her loving spirit, gentle touch and wonderful smile. She brought joy to others in song. She was a member of Song Birds and sang in the church choir. After her children were grown, she worked for 10 years in the Iowa State University Dairy Extension Office. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed making baby blankets for her family and church.
She is survived by three daughters, Jayanne Jones of Nevada, Donna Bahr of Paynesville, Minn., and Marlene Garrey of Ames; and one sister, Maxine Wagner of Waterloo. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father; her siblings; one granddaughter and one great grandson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
