Skromme Struck and Killed by Hit and Run Driver
Roland, Nov. 24--More particulars have been received here regarding the death of Severt Skromme, former Roland man was killed last week near Shabbona, Ill. Mr. Skromme died Tuesday at the St. Mary's hospital at De Kalb, from injuries received when he was struck by a hit and run driver near Shabbona.
He had visited his daughter, Mrs. E. Christiansen on Monday and was taken to Sugar Grove by members of his family and boarded a train for Shabbona. The daughter said she believed her father was walking to the farm home of a friend when he was hit by an automobile of a vampire motorist. Mr. Skromme was able to tell the De Kalb county deputy sheriff that he was struck from behind and the driver of the car swung around and sped away without stopping to ascertain the extent of his injuries.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Lutheran church at Lee, Ill., where Mr. Skromme spent all his life since coming to the United States from Norway at the age of eighteen years. He was born in Norway on July 10, 1867. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Christiansen, of Shabbona, with whom he lived all last summer, he is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Mabel Kvavli and Mrs. Beatrice Hundt of Chicago, Mrs. Myrtle Daley of Davenport; one son, Archie Skromme, of West Chicago, besides two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Christian and Miss Carrie Skromme, postmaster, and brother Ole of Roland. Miss Carrie Skromme attended the funeral at Lee on Friday.
