Funeral Services Held at McCallsburg for Fred Jorstad

McCallsburg, Nov. 15--The funeral of Fred Jorstad was held Friday, Nov. 11, with a brief devotional service in the home, at 1:30 and services at the Bethany Lutheran church at 2:00 with Rev. H. N. Bakke in charge.

Mesdames B. Imsland and O. E. Ritland sang two numbers: "No Night There" and "I'm But A Stranger Here" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Jno. Helland. Randall Hatteberg gave a brief message and sang "When My Life Work is Ended."

There were many gifts for missions in memoriam. The floral gifts were numerous and very beautiful. In charge of the flowers were Mesdames M. Hanskins and Lloyd Ellingson. The following served as pall bearers: Julius Hougen, H. O. Hanson, Ole Hougen, Bert Baumgardner, S. L. Knaphus and S. Holland. The remains were interred in the Warren township cemetery.

A large number of people were in attendance, taxing the capacity of the church.

Frederick C. Jorstad, son of Jonas and Elizabeth Jorstad, was born near Seneca, Illinois, Sept. 14, 1873 and died, following an illness of several months, at his home southwest of McCallsburg, Iowa, on Nov. 9, 1938.

Mr. Jorstad was united in marriage to Miss Dora Olson, at McCallsburg, Iowa on February 18, 1897. For a few years, following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Jorstad made their home near Seneca, Illinois. In 1901 they moved to a farm southwest of McCallsburg, Iowa, which immediate vicinity has been their home.

Mr. Jorstad leaves to mourn his passing his wife, six children and five grandchildren. The children are as follows: Edna, Mrs. Harry Billings, Compton, Calif.; Otis, Myron and Jesse of McCallsburg; Lillian of Kingman, Ariz.; Erma, Mrs. Melvin Lantz of Boone; and Elizabeth of Chicago. One son died in infancy. One brother, Jonas of Elkton, Minn., one half-brother, Omond of Renville, Minn., one half sister, Mrs. C. J. Jorstad of Ottawa, Ill., also survive.

The children with the exception of the daughter, Miss Lillian were at his bedside when he passed away and she had been here since he became so ill and had returned to her school duties at Kinnaman, Ariz., just recently and as it was so far she did not return for the funeral.

L. Rankin, Colo; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lantz, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lantz, Ruben Lanta, Mrs. Clarence Carlson, Mrs. Mary Nelson, Mrs. Mary Snell, Mrs. Sigfred Snell and Mrs. Louis Anderson, all of Boone, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Hougen, Ames; MR. and Mrs. John Hougen, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Pearson, Story City; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stenson, Mrs. Rachel Amensen, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Christian, Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Hanson, Roland; Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson, Mrs. Mary Nokes, Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Russel Adams, Zearing; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hodnefield, Mr. Randall Hattebery, Radcliffe; Mr. and Mrs. Patakotis, Roland.
