Funeral Services for Mrs. John Milton [should be Mrs. John Nielson]
Slater, Nov. 15--Funeral services for Mrs. John Nielson were held Monday afternoon 1:30 o'clock at the home and 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist church. The services were in charge of her pastor Rev. Judson Perkins. The reading of the scripture was the twenty-third Psalm and a part of the 14th chapter of St. John. The many beautiful floral offerings paid silent tribute to the departed friend. Mrs. A. J. Reinertson and Mrs. Ed Ross, arranged and cared for the flowers.
The pall bearers were: E. C. Rood, P. L. Nelson, A. A. Chader, Will Van Gundy, Thomas Brown and Chas. Skortman.
The Riis Quartette sang two numbers: "Old Rugged Cross" and "Let the Lower Light be Burning." A duet was sung by Mesdames M. S. Heggen and A. L. Peterson.
Burial was made in the Slater cemetery.
Sina Marie Peterson was born in Denmark, Nov. 16, 1854 and died at her home in Slater, Nov. 11, 1938 at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 25 days.
Her marriage to John Nielson took place May 10th, 1882. Mr. Nielson preceded his bride to America and she joined him here a year later. They came to Sheldahl, May 18, 1883, and made it their home for several years. They also resided in Minnesota for a brief time. They moved to Slater in 1889 and have made this their home the past 49 years. Two children blessed this union, Nels and Katy. The daughter Katy, who was Mrs. Fred Nelson of Chicago, died three years ago.
Mrs. Nielson with her husband united early in life with the Methodist church. She was an active worker in the church and was a member of the Ladies' Aid.
She was a devoted wife and mother and a sincere friend. She is survived by her husband, one son Nels; four grand children, Jules Nelson of Chicago; Mrs. Ray Roe of Madrid; Sherman and Hubert Nielson of Slater; also three great grandchildren and a host of friends.
