Laurence Peterson Funeral Services Held In S.C.

Funeral services for Laurence Christian Peterson were held in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City at 2 p. m. on Friday, Aug. 17 with the Pastor T. J. Alvestad officiating. His text was from Matthew 7:13-14 and 21-23.

Mrs. Benjamin Anderson sang "No Night There" and "The Love of God" accompanied by Miss Louise Olson, organist.

The pallbearers were George Dyvik, Merle Frette, Johnny Egenes, Robert Krough, Dean Thompson and William Tjernagel.

Interment was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, west of Story City.

Life Sketch

Laurence Christian Peterson, known as L. C. Peterson, was born to Christian and Marne Peterson, Sept. 27, 1875 at Ringkjobing, Denmark. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Denmark.

Peterson came to the United States in the year of 1889; lived in Michigan for several years, leaving there to take up farming at Decorah. In 1901, he came to Ames to attend Iowa State College to study "Dairy Industry." Upon completion he wen to the Rosendale community just a few miles west of Story City to operate the creamery where he worked 23 years.

In 1903 he united in marriage to Anna Bremsen. To this union seven children were born: three sons, Laurence, Jasper and Alfred; and four daughters, Almira, Hazel, Mildred and Elsie.

His wife, Anna, died in April 1924. The following year he moved his family to Story City where he managed the Story City Co-Operative Creamery, until his retirement in 1948. He won a Gold Medal at the Iowa State Fair and a Bronze Medal at the St. Louis World's Fair Exposition as well as numerous certificates for high achievement in his work, "Buttermaking."

Peterson was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church while living at Rosendale and transferred his membership to Immanuel Lutheran Church when they moved to Story City.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Hazel) Sandvick and one son, Jasper Peterson.

Peterson was found dead in his home of Tuesday, Aug. 13. It is believed he died sometime during the night.

Survivors include Laurence E. Peterson and Mrs. Martin (Mildred) Richardson of Ames; Mrs. Henry (Almira) Knutson of Des Moines, and Elsie Peterson and Alfred Peterson, both of Los Angeles, Calif.
