DEATHS

Funeral services for Ben Berchtold were held on Monday, November 20 at 2 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City with the Rev. T. J. Alvestad officiating. Mrs. Tim Yantis sang "Just As I Am" and "O Take My Hand, Dear Father" accompanied by Miss Louise Olson organist.

Pallbearers were Murl Smuck, Curnie C. Larson, Milford Johnson, Earl Erlette, Osmund Kalvick and Harold Hougen. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Ben Berchtold was born on October 3, 1899 in Lisbon, Illinois to Jacob and Katherine [Sinn] Berchtold. During his early life he made his home in Illinois and Missouri, coming to Story City in 1928 where he has made his home since. In 1931 he was married to Jessie Lee in Story City. To this marriage were born two children, Sarah, Mrs. Leonard Anderson of Roland and Robert of Ames.

Mr. Berchtold had been in ill health for the past several years. He died at the Story City Memorial Hospital on November 17 after being confined to the hospital for two weeks.

Surviving Mr. Berchtold are his two children, Mrs. Leonard Anderson of Roland and Robert of Ames; eight grandchildren; five sisters; Mrs. Lena Burks of Fremont, Ill.; Mrs. Lydia Kiefer of Lawrence, Kansas; Mrs. Christina Brown of Edelstein, Illinois; Mrs. Mary Ricketts of Peoria Heights, Ill. and Miss Emma Berchtold of Spae, Ill.; seven brothers, Dan of Spear, Ill.; George of Long Beach, Calif.; Albert of Edelstein, Ill.; Jake of Long Beach, Calif.; David of Kansas City, Mo.; Robert of Spear, Ill. and Mike of Peoria, Ill. Also surviving is one uncle, Will Sinn of Fort Scott, Kansas.
