Mrs. Walter Jensen Funeral Services Held Saturday
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter (Sims) Jensen, were held Saturday, March 17 at the Dunn Funeral Home in Des Moines. Another service was hele on Sunday in the Maxwell Christian Church. Burial was in the Iowa Center cemetery.
Life Sketch
Bertha May Smith Jensen was born to Abraham and Rosanna Smith in Story County near Maxwell, Iowa on June 29, 1882, and died in a Des Moines hospital following a week's illness on March 15, 1962, at the age of 79 years and 8 months.
Bertha was married to Arch L. Sims in 1909 at Portsmouth, Iowa. Two children were born to this union; one daughter, Arvalene Thorson of Des Moines, and a son, Laverne, who passed away at the age of eleven years in June of 1927. Mr. Sims passed away in August of 1947.
Mrs. Jensen had lived in Story County and Nebraska before moving to Des Moines in February of 1925. She has since made her home here ever since. In 1954 she was married to Walter Jensen.
Bertha united with the College Avenue Christian Church in 1931 where she has been active in all phases of the church program. She was interested and loyal in all the activities and concerns of the church.
Mrs. Jensen was also a member of the Alpha Rebecca Lodge, and for quite a few years was an active participant in the Golden Age Club.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; one daughter, Arvalene Thorson; two granddaughters, Charlene Hayne of Des Moines, Iowa, and Christine Bressler of Sterling, Illinois; one great granddaughter, Laura Bressler of Sterling, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Illingworth of Des Moines and many other relatives and friends.
