Thursday, March 8, 1962OBITUARY OF EDWARD J. SAMPSON
Edward John Sampson, son of Iver and Guro Sampson, was born south of Roland on November 21, 1879, and passed away February 22, 1962, at the age of 82 years, three months and one day.
Edward was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifetime member of the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. He was married to Gustie M. Thompson on August 15, 1906. To this union nine children were born, four daughters and five sons.
Mr. Sampson spent all of his life farming in the Roland vicinity, until moving to Roland in 1941.
Survivors include his wife, Gustie; four daughters, Mrs. Art (Evelyn) Farthing and Mrs. Elwood (Ione) French, both of Nevada, Mrs. Lester (Grace) Jensen of Story City, and Mrs. Edward (Inez) Rudney of San Leandro, Calif.; five sons, Clarence and Edward G. of Nevada, Arnold of Story City, Donald of Algona, and Loren of Ankeny; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Iver, Oscar and Tom, all of Roland; two sisters, Mrs. Tom Solmonson and Mrs. Ole A. Olson, both of Storden, Minn., besides a host of other relatives.
Services were held Tuesday, February 27, at 2 p.m. in Bergen Lutheran Church, Pastor Howard M. Lybeck officiating. Music was provided by Otto Hanson, accompanied by Mrs. Otto Hanson.
Pallbearers were Arthur Shold, Jeffrey Rasmusson, Carroll Jacobson, Rudolph Risdal, Tommy Ryan and Lynn Danielson. Interment was in the Roland Cemetery.
Those from out of town attending the services were from Storden, Minn., Ames, Nevada, Story City, Whitten and Waterloo.
