THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, August 16, 2005.

Ike M. Jutting, 76, of Ames, died on Sunday, Aug. 14, at Northcrest Health Care Center. He deeded his body to the University of Iowa, and a memorial service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27.
He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Buffalo Center. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1946 and from Central College in Pella in 1950. He received a master's degree from Drake University in 1957.
He married Arlene E. Elbring on Aug. 21, 1950, in Webster Groves, Mo., and began his teaching career in music at Woodward that same year. He held superintendent of school positions in Meriden from 1955-57 and in Zearing from 1957-62. In the summer of 1962, he and his family moved to Ames, and he sold school textbooks in the eastern two-thirds of Iowa until 1969 when he became the executive director of Mid Iowa Community Action. His last career move was to real estate in 1974, and he worked with Friedrich Realty until his retirement in 2001.
He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church for over 35 years where he was ordained an elder, served on committees and also sang in the choir. He joined the Ames Noon Lions Club in 1970, served in many capacities including district governor (1991-92) and received numerous awards for his leadership and service. He received a kidney organ transplant in 1987 and was active in a local support group for persons on the waiting list, transplant recipients, and donor families. Until the last few months, he was very active in the Heartland Senior Band, playing his tenor saxophone.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his son Jeffrey (Jeff) and wife, Denise (Dee), his daughter Jacqueline (Jaci) Mart and husband, Kevin; his son Jerrold (Jerry) and partner, John Zmolek; a sister, Carol De Young and husband, Robert; and six grandchildren including Chris Jutting and Kellie Jutting.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents, August and Hermina (Minnie) Albers Jutting of Buffalo Center, and a sister, Lillian Waalkes, of Aplington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for Northminster Presbyterian Church, the Ames Noon Lions Club, P.O. Box 128, Ames, IA, 50010; the Iowa Donor Network, 8191 Birchwood Court, Suite J, Johnston, IA 50131; or Northcrest Retirement Community, 1801 20th St. Ames, IA, 50010.
