THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, August 16, 2005.

Leola I. Beckwith, 83, of Ames and formerly of Boone, passed away at Northcrest Community on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 14. She had been a resident at the Northcrest Community in Ames since May of this year. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Leola I. Beckwith was born on Oct. 15, 1921, in Hancock the daughter of Orie and Pearl (Palmer) Gress.
On Dec. 17, 1966, she married F. William Beckwith at Salem, S.D.
Leola was a graduate of Lewis High School in Lewis. She pursued a career in business at Chillicothe Business School in Chillicothe, Mo. Much of her life was spent living in the Ames and Boone area. She was an active member of the Ames Women's Club for 32 years. Leola enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her special card club friends, going to movies and attending concerts.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, F.W. "Bill" Beckwith of Boone; two sons, Mark Almquist and his wife, Debby, of Estherville and Jim Beckwith of Ames; two step-daughters, Dr. Mary Kristine Moore and her husband, Dr. David Moore, of Indianapolis and Dr. Paula Sue Beckwith of Waukee; four grandchildren, Andy Almquist and his wife, Annie, of Muncie, Ind., Amy Almquist and her husband, Dan Chatham, of Coralville, and Harry Moore and Aaron Moore, both of Indianapolis; one great-granddaughter, Leola Almquist of Muncie, Ind.; and two brothers, Gordon Gress of Happy Jack, Ariz., and Darold Gress of Lake Tahoe, Nev.
Her parents preceded her in death.
The body was cremated. There will be no visitations.
Memorials may be given to F. William and Leola I. Beckwith Charitable Foundation or the Iowa Grocers Association Educational Foundation.
Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
