J. A. McDaniel Rites Held In Nevada Tuesday

Funeral services for the late James A. McDaniel were held from the Ryan Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 with the Rev. Donald M. Gruber of the Nevada Evangelical United Brethren church officiating.

Mrs. Kathleen Erickson sang three songs "Lead Me Gently Home," "Child of a King," and "The Unclouded Day." Mrs. Richard Benson was at the organ.

The many beautiful floral offerings, arranged by Mrs. Al Spivey and Mrs. Wm. Shickell, were mute testimony of the very high regard and esteem in which the deceased was held.

The casket bearers were Harold Baker, Karl Cessna, Al Spivey, Clyde Steward, Harvey Collins and Lester Vail.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife, Sarah Jeanette, who passed away in 1928. A son Lester also preceded him in death.

Obituary

James A. McDaniel was born Jan. 18, 1878 in Prairie City, Missouri, and passed away April 30, 1954 in the Collins Memorial hospital in Knoxville.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry McDaniel and came to Story county in 1900. All the intervening years, with the exception of five, were lived in the Nevada community. The family lived two years at Roland and three at Hayfield.

Mr. McDaniel worked as a brick mason for a number of years and also had been engaged in farming.

He was a longtime member of the Nevada Evangelical United Brethren church, serving its Board of Trustees and also as Sunday school teacher for many years. Mr. McDaniel's life was an exemplification of the Christian principles he espoused.

Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Raymond McDaniel, Kenneth McDaniel and Donald McDaniel of Nevada; Mae, Mrs. Dearold Dodd, Knoxville; Ellen, Mrs. S. E. Martin, Panama City, Fla.; Mrs. Florence Rapp, Nevada; Zella, Mrs. Ralph Reitz of Ames and Betty, Mrs. John Clark, Norwalk, Calif.

He also leaves one brother, John McDaniel, Whittier, Calif. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren and a host of friends.

Here for Funeral

Members of the immediate family from a distance here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Martin, Panama City, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Dearold Dodds, Knoxville, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Reitz of Ames.

Others here were his brother, John McDaniel, Whittier, Calif.; Lester McDaniel and Gertrude McDaniel of Atlantic, Dr. and Mrs. Marion Albert of Des Moines, Mrs. Clair Wilson, Marion, Ia., Gordon McDaniel, Marshalltown, Miss Mayme Martin, Ames, Mr. and Mrs. John Dodds, Rising Sun, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ruckman, Zearing, Miss Jennie Zerkel of Boone and Mrs. James A. Martin, Dallas, Texas.
