George A. Kimble

Services for George A. Kimble, who died at the University hospital, Iowa City, Tuesday, Dec. 30, were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church with his pastor, Rev. Reynolds C. Murdock in charge.

The songs were by Mrs. Beulah Freeman with Mrs. J. C. Hathaway at the organ.

Following the regular service the Masonic committal service, which was held at the church rather than at the graveside, was read by Dr. J. C. Hathaway.

Pallbearers were Dr. George Ostrem, Harold Tipton, George H. Kellogg, Byron Dickey, Homer L. Boyes and Randall Davis.

Because of the severity of the weather the committal of the body was deferred until a later date.

The following brief sketch of Mr. Kimble was read by the pastor during the service:

George Anson Kimble, son of Richard and Ellen Kimble, was born on the old Kimble homestead in Milford township, March 6, 1872.

He attended the country schools of the township and then Iowa State college in Ames.

On October 15, 1879, he was married to Cora Sowers of Roland, Iowa. No children were born to this marriage.

After the death of his wife, he left the farm and went to Omaha, Neb., where he resided for about six years. On February 25, 1908, he was united in marriage to Emily Peterson of Omaha. They immediately returned to Iowa made their home on the farm three miles northwest of Nevada, where they lived until the spring of 1931 when they moved to Nevada, where they have since resided.

For the past ten years Mr. Kimble had been custodian of the Story county courthouse at Nevada. Early in the fall Mr. Kimble experienced an automobile accident from which he suffered considerable from exposure. He returned to work, but shortly the experience began to tell on him. For several days he remained at home but failed to gain back his strength. He was then taken to Iowa City where, after continued treatment which failed to bring relief, he passed away about noon December 30, 1941.

Mr. Kimble had been a member of the Nevada Masonic lodge for over twenty years and was serving his fifth year as tyler of the lodge. He became a member of the Nevada Methodist church in 1912 and served it in many ways during the following years. For the last several years he was a member of the board of stewards and was always faithful in his performance of his duties. His genial personality has been and will be greatly missed in the meetings of the official board. Few laymen have been more devoutly concerned about the advancement of righteousness and the services of his church than he. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, always thinking of the welfare and comfort of his loved ones.

Four children entered this family, the youngest son, Virgil, dying in infancy. Surviving are the wife and three children, Vivian L. (Mrs. Gaylon Mann of Nevada:; Dorothea E. (Mrs. A. E. White of Belmond, Iowa); and Lowell R. Kimble of Nevada; six grandchildren, also two brothers, Clarence A. Kimble of Deadwood, S. D., and Elroy W. Kimble of Oakland, Cal.
