MRS. MINKLER DEAD; FUNERAL SUNDAY
WELL KNOWN WOMAN PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME HERE THURSDAY.
Mrs. Chas. M. Minkler, 74, died at her home on Main street, Thursday afternoon at four o'clock, after a long illness continuing over a period of several months, the last five weeks of which she had been confined to her bed. Cancer of the stomach was the cause of death.
The funeral services will be held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30, after which the body will be interred in the Nevada cemetery.
The casket will be opened and the body may be viewed by the friends during Sunday until 1 o'clock.
The funeral will be in charge of her pastor, Rev. Jackson Giddins, assisted by her former pastor, Dr. R. M. Shipman, now pastor of the First Methodist church at Ames.
Ellen Amelia White was born at Rush, Pennsylvania September 1st, 1851, the daughter of Captain and Mrs. Warren Townsend White.
Early in life she became interested in educational and religious activities joining the church in infancy and continuing active in church work throughout her entire life. For a number of years she taught in the public schools in Ogle county, Ill. living in the meantime with her uncle John Parker at Rochelle, Ill. She was married on Sept. 25, 1872 to Charles M. Minkler and came to Story county as a pioneer in a covered wagon in 1872. She was the mother of six children Genevieve, Fredrick and Frank (twins); Howard and Jennie (twins); and Lawrence Frank. Jennie and Lawrence died in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Minkler lived on their original farm in Milford township from 1872 until 1907, when they moved to Nevada.
During her early married life she taught in the public schools of Milford township and was always a leader and active in Sunday school and church activities at Pleasant Grove. After moving to Nevada, she joined forces with the Methodist church and was active in every branch of the church's affairs. She is survived by her husband Charles M. Minkler; her daughter Genevieve Montgomery of Nevada, Frederick C. Minkler of Evanston, Ill., Howard L. Minkler of Harlan, her brother Lyman E. White of Nevada; and two sisters, Mrs. C. W. Hoyman of Ladner, S. D., and Miss Alma E. White of Rochelle, Ill.
The funeral services in accordance with her own wishes will be held at the home residence at 621 Main street on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock p. m. Friends desirous of viewing the remains will be given this privilege on Sunday morning from 10:00 until 1:00 o'clock.
